To help combat inflation, a movement to plant several commodities was carried out massively and simultaneously in all sub-districts in the city of Bandung.
Bandung City (ANTARA) – The Bandung City Government (Pemkot), West Java, is intensifying a movement to plant vegetables simultaneously in 30 sub-districts to control inflation and maintain food security in the city.
"To help combat inflation, the movement to plant several commodities is being carried out massively and simultaneously in all sub-districts in Bandung City," said Bandung City Regional Secretary, Ema Sumarna in Bandung, Tuesday.
Ema said this movement was carried out to increase food production, especially in non-central areas through the Bandung Menanam program.
Bandung Menanam, which has entered its fifth volume, carries the theme 'Green City, Pick the Fruit'. Around 210 thousand seedlings of various types of vegetables were planted simultaneously in this activity.
"This activity makes us aware of how important productive plant products are related to daily life," he said.
He said that the type of chili plant will be prioritized for planting as an effort to maintain regional food security, as well as control inflation which has increased due to the increase in chili prices.
"But I am sure in the near future, Bandung will have a chili harvest season. Hopefully, even though the price is still high, it can be controlled soon with activities like this," he said.
In addition to holding simultaneous planting activities, he said, the city government also provided support by presenting cheap markets to make it easier for people to meet their needs amidst still high prices.
"This activity is in synergy with the cheap market activities that are carried out in turns in 30 sub-districts. So I think this is interrelated with our strategic efforts to control inflation," said Ema.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bandung City Food Security and Agriculture Service (DKPP), Gin Gin Ginanjar, said that the fifth volume of the Bandung Planting activity involved assistance from various parties such as the West Java Provincial Agriculture Service, the Ministry of Agriculture and Bank Indonesia.
"For tree seedlings in the region, all have been distributed. Simultaneously, we carry out hybrid planting," said Gin Gin.
Gin Gin stated that the activity was not only carried out at the beginning of planting. To maintain a shared commitment, a commitment was also signed to care for and preserve the plants that had been planted.
"We also have a team that monitors every point of cooperation with the region. Every three or six months they must report the development of the plants," he said.
He hopes that this activity can preserve the environment and also maintain food in Bandung City. "We want to build food security, so that the trees we plant are productive plants," he said.
