BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com – Ahead of Christmas and New Year 2025, the West Java (Jabar) Food Task Force (Satgas) conducted a surprise operation (sidak) in traditional and modern markets. This activity aims to ensure that important staple foods (Bapokting) in the Bandung City area are free from pesticides and are suitable for consumption by the public. This is based on the results of laboratory tests on a number of samples that have been taken.

"Of the 14 staple food items tested in our laboratory car, all were free from pesticides and preservatives that are harmful to health. In addition, all of these ingredients are suitable and can be consumed well," said Head of the West Java Food Task Force, Maruly Pardede, during a surprise inspection of the Kosambi market, Bandung City, on Friday (12/20/2024). Maruly added that laboratory tests had also been carried out on fish, and the results showed that the fish were suitable for consumption.

"Based on sampling, it can be said that it is suitable for consumption and the stock is sufficient until Christmas and New Year," he said.

The availability of staple foods ahead of Nataru 2025 in the West Java region, according to Maruly, has been sufficient. "The stock for Christmas and New Year ahead is sufficient," he said.

However, Maruly also noted that there were traders who got their egg supplies from Central Java because the availability of eggs in West Java was considered insufficient.

"We had a discussion, and indeed the reason the traders took from Central Java was because the availability of eggs in West Java was insufficient. So, they needed additional supplies from Central Java," he explained.

Currently, the price of eggs on the market has reached IDR 32,000 per kilogram, and Maruly ensures that the stock availability in West Java is sufficient.

"In terms of eggs, in the last week the price was IDR 32,000 per kilogram, and the stock is also sufficient," he added.

Maruly also revealed that the price of curly chilies and lamb has decreased from IDR 60,000 to IDR 50,000 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, the price of rice in the market reached Rp15,000 and above, the price of chicken reached Rp37,000, and beef Rp140,000.

To anticipate possible price increases and stock shortages ahead of Christmas and New Year, the Food Task Force will conduct further inspections and order the Head of the Trade and Industry Sub-Directorate of the West Java Regional Police Criminal Investigation Directorate to check the distribution conditions from upstream to downstream.

"There are some suppliers who are having difficulties. We will check upstream so that there is no blockage in the distribution channel that can hamper stock and cause price increases," he concluded.

Regarding the increase in spice prices, Maruly said that supply and demand factors as well as seasonal conditions influence price fluctuations.

"This may be related to supply and demand. Currently, supply may be affected by the bad season, while demand ahead of Christmas and New Year increases, so the price goes up. However, in general, supply is still sufficient," he concluded.
